Jam session!
So here we go, another game is on his way!
While in the making of other projects, we decided to attend the MiniJam 79: Frogs is the theme and One level the (non mandatory) limitation.
We had some ideas but since the time was not that much we went for the most doable of the bunch!
Rahnner takes place on a muddy trail in which our unnamed frog runs towards the end. Who knows what's at the end? We don't. We surely knows what it's in between the frog and the end: lots of junk and unforgiving speeds!
Our main focus was to have a playable runner/avoider in the classic casual fashion, with the only purpose of reaching the highscore. Next, it came the graphics: the style was the standard Calalinta style, but... With time urging the development, we added those pencil-like strokes. The result is, in our opinion, quite nice since it gives everything a little more movement and also it reflects our crazyness.
Also it was mandatory that the game is playable from pc and mobile, managing mouse/touch inputs but also the keyboard.
You can see what we are talking about in these frames from the three levels of speed reachable while running.
After the base running core, we added some juice: the kinetic lines, the tutorial and the additional objects like the star (bonus points and little time invulnerability), the shield (bonus points and providing and helmet that allows the player one mistake) and the 1UP (bonus points and adding 1 to the available hit points).
Last thing last, as always, sounds! With the use of Google Music Lab's Song Maker we had the background music. After the big thing, it was the turn of in-game sound effects, recorded and edited in Audacity.
That was quite a rush but we are pretty satisfied with the outcome! It looks like it may be the base for another Android project with some kind of refining and additions, who knows!
And you, did you have a run?
